The answers we give on the first call.
What this costs, how it sits alongside your CPA and your bookkeeper, and what we are and are not. If something here is still unclear, ask us directly.
Plainly, before you ask.
What does it cost?
We quote a fixed monthly fee after the first conversation. It is set by the size of the practice and by how much of the finance function we are running, and it does not move with the number of transactions in a given month.
We do not publish a price list. The two programs cover a wide range of practices, and quoting you off a table before we have seen how yours is run would not be an honest number.
Do you replace our CPA?
That depends on the program. In Practice Finance we run the whole finance function, including tax planning and the return, so most practices do not keep a separate preparer.
In Practice CFO your CPA stays your CPA. We lead the tax strategy through the year and hand them a planned position, with entity, compensation, and distributions already worked out.
Are you a CPA firm?
No. We are not a CPA firm, and we do not perform audits, reviews, or other attestation work. If a lender or a transaction requires an audited or reviewed financial statement, you need a CPA firm, and we will tell you that rather than take the engagement.
What we bring is twenty years of senior financial leadership inside privately held and private equity backed companies: the operating and strategic side of the finance seat, with tax planning and filing handled as part of it.
What systems do you work in?
We work in the accounting and practice management systems you already run. Part of the first conversation is looking at what is in place and telling you plainly whether anything in the current setup will limit what the reporting can do, and what it would take to change that.
We already have a bookkeeper. Does that change anything?
It usually makes the engagement easier. In Practice CFO your bookkeeper keeps doing the work, to a standard we set: a close calendar, a review process, and a chart of accounts built so service lines and provider production can actually be read.
Nobody is asking you to tear out the people who keep the practice running.
How does an engagement start?
With a handover rather than a launch date. We take what exists, clean up what came before, and set the structure so none of it has to be redone later.
Your first full month of reporting follows the first full close we run. The rhythm after that is fixed: you know when numbers arrive, when decisions are due, and what is coming next on the calendar.
Do you work with practices outside New Jersey?
Yes. We serve independent veterinary practices nationally, including practices with owners or staff in more than one state, where payroll and the filings behind it have to be handled in each.
Is there a contract?
Every engagement runs month to month. No annual contract, no lock-in, and no exit fee if you end it.
We also stand behind the work. If a month of our work is not what we promised, we refund that month in full.
What happens in the first conversation?
An hour on the phone. You tell us how the practice runs and what decision is in front of you. We tell you what we would do about it, and in what order.
If there is nothing here worth doing, we will say so. We would rather tell you that in an hour than six months in.
We are not a veterinary practice. Can you still help?
Yes, through our other practices. Handled! by Blackridge serves small business owners across all industries, and Blackridge MFG serves manufacturing, distribution, and trade services businesses.
